(1) EU Presidency Launch Event: The future of Development cooperation: Civil society’s ambition for Ireland’s EU Presidency – 24 June
Dóchas invites you to the launch of its EU Presidency Project with a conference “The future of Development cooperation: Civil society’s ambition for Ireland’s EU Presidency” on June 24th at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. The event will feature a Keynote Speech on the role of civil society in a new global Europe, as well as panel discussions looking at challenges and opportunities for the EU’s International Partnerships, and what is at stake during Ireland’s presidency period. (1) IDEA Climate, Culture & Hope: A Conversation with Michael D. Higgins – 28 June
Former President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins joins the Galway Climate Inspirations Festival for a special conversation with Ruairí McKiernan, CEO of IDEA – the Irish Development Education Association. Together they will explore climate action, sustainability, and the role of arts, culture and education in creating a fairer future. Drawing on his lifelong commitment to social change, creativity and community, Michael D. Higgins will reflect on how hope, imagination and collective action can help address today’s challenges. (2) Development Studies Association: DSA 2026 Conference – 8-10 July
For the first time in 40 years, the Development Studies Association UK conference will come to Ireland. It will take place as a hybrid conference and will be organised and hosted by the Centre for Sustainable Development, University College Dublin, on 8-10 July 2026. This year’s theme is Reimagining Development: Power, Agency, and Futures in an Uncertain World but you will also find panels on a range of topics including politics, gender, agriculture, AI, youth, conflict and more.
Worldview will be hosting a panel at the Conference on 8 July, from 2.45-4.15 pm. The panel is titled ‘Shifting geopolitical sands: How global instability is shaping the public’s understanding of and approach to overseas development aid, and what this means for communicating development‘, and will explore how public values shape support for overseas aid amid global instability & the implications for development communications. Using data from the UK, US, France & Germany, the panel will compare Ireland’s uniquely stable, values-driven support for aid despite rising global tensions. Register here.

(2) Public Interest Law Alliance Pro Bono Celebration Event – 11 June
This event celebrates and promotes the pro bono work undertaken by lawyers in Ireland over the past year. (6) UNICEF Ireland: Senior Advocacy and Policy Consultant – Global Health, Nutrition and ODA – 12 June
UNICEF Ireland is seeking a senior consultant to support advocacy and political engagement on maternal, newborn and child health and nutrition (MNCH+N) within Ireland’s global health and Official Development Assistance (ODA) agenda. The consultant will work with UNICEF Ireland, UNICEF Brussels, and global colleagues to strengthen political support for child survival, nutrition, and global health, with a particular focus on Ireland’s pathway to 0.7% ODA and its upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union. They are seeking an experienced advocacy, public affairs, or policy professional with strong knowledge of Irish political processes and international development. Self Help Africa is seeking an independent consultant to evaluate its Irish Aid-funded ICSP programme (2023–2027), operating across seven African countries. The evaluation covers two components: long-term development and humanitarian programmes (Component A), and Global Citizenship Education in Ireland (Component B). Consultants may apply for one or both. Using OECD-DAC criteria, the evaluation will assess relevance, effectiveness, impact and sustainability. (1) STAND: Changemakers Academy -15 August
Applications are now open for the STAND Changemakers Academy 2026, our award-winning, immersive three-month programme for students and recent graduates exploring this year’s theme: Peace and Reconciliation. Running from 24th August to October 2026, the programme includes: A four-day residential in Knockree, Co. Wicklow, a five-week online Global Issues course, and a cross-border residential weekend in Derry focused on peacebuilding, storytelling, and dialogue. Find out more and apply here.

The Irish Development Education Association is delighted to invite members to deliver IDEA Summer Knowledge Share Sessions 2026, running every Wednesday in July and August as part of IDEA’s Capacity Development programme. These sessions support shared learning in Quality Development Education and Global Citizenship Education in Ireland and internationally. Sessions will take place from 12.00 pm to 12.45 pm, online on the following dates: 01, 08, 15, 22 and 29 July, and 05, 12, 19 and 26 August. These sessions will be hosted by an IDEA staff member. (2) Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society: 2026 Hugh O’Flaherty International Humanitarian Award – 10 July
Nominations are now open for the 2026 Hugh O’Flaherty International Humanitarian Award. Inspired by Monsignor O’Flaherty, who sheltered an estimated 6,500 people from Nazi persecution in wartime Rome, this award honours outstanding individuals, teams, or organisations providing exceptional humanitarian service at home or abroad. The recipient will receive the O’Flaherty Humanitarian Medal, a Framed Award Scroll presented by the Mayor of Killarney, and a €3,000 bursary.
