Solidarity, Empowerment and Shaping Minds: Youth Event on Media, Global Citizenship and Change:
On November 25th, 2025, the Global Solidarity Hub hosted a dynamic youth event for university students interested in global citizenship education.
Delivered in Partnership with GOAL, Trócaire, Sightsavers Ireland, Plan International and supported by Irish Aid, the event titled: Solidarity, Empowerment and Shaping Minds, explored how media influences the way we see the world, and how young people can harness media as a positive force for awareness empathy and social change.
Background
The youth-led event was designed to be interactive and creative. The event focused on building critical media literacy while strengthening participants’ understanding of global justice and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through games, videos, discussion and hands-on activities, students examined how media can shape public opinion, reinforce stereotypes and contribute to polarisation while discussing and learning how these impacts can be challenged in constructive and empowering ways.
The GSH inaugural Youth Event was about equipping young people with the tools, confidence, and awareness to engage critically with media, challenge misinformation and use communication as a force for good. By fostering creativity, collaboration and critical thinking, the event empowered students to become more informed global citizens and active advocates for a fairer, more inclusive and more sustainable world.
