Dóchas Guide to Ethical Communications

Dóchas, 2023

Available at this link

Summary Description

This Guide is designed as an updated version of the Dóchas Code of Conduct on Images and Messages (2006) and of the ‘Illustrated Guide to the Dóchas Code of Conduct on Images and Messages’ (2014). It is designed for NGOs, inviting them to critically reflect on the images and messages they create and use in different contexts. It focuses on values and language, on the power dynamics around ethical communications, and on the importance of diversifying voices and perspectives in communications. Commitments to ‘authentic representation’, ‘contributor-led stories and locally led content development’, ‘informed consent’ and ‘upholding standards and doing no harm’ are explored as well as issues around accountability and feedback.
