Upcoming Events and Conferences 

(1) We Act: St. Patrick's Festival Storytelling Session - 15 March

Join us for an evening of shared stories about the meaning of community in Ireland from a diverse collection of storytellers who drive change in their communities. The theme of the evening is Meitheal: Communities Coming Together. We Act is a campaign to celebrate the doers in our communities. The people who help out, who show initiative, who take a stand. As part of the St. Patrick's Festival, they'll be telling their own stories, in their own words. Find out more here.

(2) Irish Global Health Network: Ireland’s Restore Humanity Campaign – Uniting for Global Health Justice - 6 March

Millions of lives are at risk due to devastating cuts in global health funding, threatening essential services for the world’s most vulnerable communities. In response, a group in Ireland has come together under the Restore Humanity Campaign, uniting voices to push for action. This online event is the first in a series bringing together activists from the USA, Global South, UK, and Europe in an act of solidarity. Together, we will share critical information, discuss the real impact of these funding cuts, and get specific about what can be done to respond to this crisis together. Find out more here. 

(3) ActionAid: Women and Conflict - 6 March

The Women and Conflict event will highlight the disproportionate impact that conflict has on women and girls globally, as well as their crucial role in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. We’ll be joined by an amazing panel of speakers. Registration is essential, and we are excited to have you with us as we explore how women and girls are at the forefront of creating sustainable solutions and peace in times of crisis. (4) The Wheel: Leadership Academy Breakfast Club - 6 March

Many leaders have mentors who have supported their journeys, or people they look up to, but what role can leaders play for people coming behind them? This month we are joined by Damien Quinn, Founder of Spéire Nua, and Dr. Jennifer Okeke, Chair of the National Womens Council and the Anti-Trafficking Coordinator with the Immigrant Council of Ireland. The event is a 45-minute chat with 40 mins breakout rooms. Find out more here.

(5) Self Help Africa: International Women's Day webinar - 6 March

The event will focus on this year’s IWD theme: ‘For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment’ and will feature four young women, from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Morocco and Ireland (via Somalia), sharing their unique stories and testimony, covering a range of topics including climate activism, gender, nutrition and the role of women in agriculture. (6) Sightsavers Ireland: Solas na mBan Free International Women's Day event - 6 March

Attendees will enjoy an expert-led panel discussion on Accelerating Action for Women with Disabilities featuring Sinead Burke, Sinead Kane and Dr Rosaleen McDonagh. Lunch and refreshments also provided. Find out more here.

(7) The Institute of International and European Affairs: Poverty, Prosperity and Planet Report 2024: Pathways out of the Polycrisis with World Bank Global Director for Poverty and Equity - 6 March

Luis Felipe López-Calva, Global Director for Poverty and Equity at the World Bank, will present the first post-pandemic assessment of global progress toward achieving the goals of ending poverty, he previously served as UN Assistant Secretary General for Latin America. This free, public event is the inaugural lecture of the 2025 Development Matters series, sponsored by Irish Aid. Find out more here.

(8) GOAL: Celebrate belonging with GOAL NextGen and St. Patrick festival - 16 March

In collaboration with St. Patrick's Festival, Grainnemir Abualrob and Aoife Hammond, GOAL NextGen is delighted to host a vibrant evening of Celebrating Belonging, exploring the connections that unite individuals and communities in Ireland. Through a curated exhibition of visual arts, music, poetry, and spoken word, the evening promises to be an enriching experience including thought-provoking discussions with artists, activists and community leaders. (9) Oxfam Ireland: Ground Up: Climate Justice Forum - 11 April

Where are the hopeful visions of the future in these dark and uncertain times? How do we build the powerful movements needed to make those visions a reality? Come to Cork this April to discuss how we win Climate Justice from the Ground Up. Hosted by Oxfam Ireland, this festival of ideas will feature workshops, discussions and performances from a wide range of inspirational grassroots organisations, activists, community groups and creatives from Ireland and beyond. (1) Christian Aid Ireland: Due Diligence Passporting: Lessons from a journey toward localisation with Ukrainian Local and National Actors - Learning Paper Launch - 11 March

Christian Aid Ireland is pleased to invite you to a webinar to share the findings from a pilot on Due Diligence Passporting Tool with Local and National Actors in Ukraine. This pilot was part of a larger capacity strengthening project funded by Irish Aid, and used the Charter for Change Due Diligence Passporting Tool. (2) Concern Worldwide: Campaigning 101: Social Media Skills Workshop - 12 March

Take your campaign online and get your message heard! This hands-on workshop will teach you how to create scroll-stopping content, use the latest social media tools, and connect with your audience in ways that inspire clicks, likes, and real-world action. (3) IDEA: Exploring Contemporary Issues through Global Citizenship Education: Climate Justice, the missing voices - 19 March

Join the Irish Development Education Association for their first session of their 2025 webinar series: "Exploring Contemporary Crises and Issues through Global Citizenship Education" entitled "Climate Justice, the missing voices" on Wednesday, 19 March online. Climate change is one of the major crises of our times. As educators, we need to address gaps in our knowledge, acknowledge bias in our understanding, and spotlight voices from diverse groups affected by the issue. (7) Vita Impact : Programme Support Officer - 7 March

Vita Impact is seeking a Programme Support Officer to contribute to our innovative, community-led development programmes in Ethiopia and Eritrea. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role involves provision of program support to grant management processes, procurement coordination, and programme administration. Additionally, the role includes fundraising support, identifying new funding opportunities, and ensuring donor compliance. Ideal candidates will have a relevant third level qualification, and at least two years’ similar work experience in a project, operations, or administrative role in a busy office or preferably charity/NGO environment. (8) Self Help Africa: WorldWise Global Schools (WWGS) Education Officer - 14 March

Self-Help Africa is seeking a WorldWise Global Schools Education Officer. Self Help Africa is an international development organisation that works through agriculture and agri-enterprise development to end hunger and extreme poverty. Courses and Training

(1) Universtiy of Galway: International Development Practice - 1 July

The MA in International Development Practice (MIDP) in the University of Galway focuses on the wide-ranging social, economic, political and environmental challenges of our rapidly changing world. Spanning global concerns, from sustainable development and climate action, gender equality, food security and alleviating poverty, this MA enables you to develop your capacities to understand and engage with both theories and practices relating to international development, with a strong emphasis on inter-disciplinarity and skills needed to work in the sector. The programme is taught by highly experienced staff who work in multilateral agencies, with practical field based research experience across many countries worldwide. Application deadline: July 1. (2) United Edge: Subsidized Justice Based Approach Foundation Course 

JBA is the only holistic approach to development and humanitarian work that responds to an age of rising authoritarianism, plummeting funding, and lost trust in human rights. When the dust settles, we need resilient organisations with preplaced resources, visionary leaders, and inspired teams that have the new skills to go beyond our current approaches. (3) Trinity College Dublin: Global Masters in Development Practice (MDP) - 31 July

Established in 2009 following recommendations from the International Commission on Education for Sustainable Development Practice, the Global Masters in Development Practice (MDP) is a world-leading and uniquely innovative interdisciplinary graduate degree programme that blends health, natural, social, and management sciences--combined with cross-sectoral professional field training and placements to better understand international development problems and apply best practices. The Dublin MDP is a member of the Global Association of Master’s in Development Practice, headquartered at the UN SDSN with offices in New York, linking with over 30 universities and thousands of partner organisations worldwide. (4) GOAL: NextGen Youth Programme - 1 April

 GOAL’s NextGen Youth Programme brings together young people from all over the world to better understand global justice issues and deepen their understanding of Global Citizenship. This programme will guide young, motivated changemakers to learn all about the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in relation climate and health systems, and how we can strive to create a fairer and more sustainable future for all. The programme is a 10-week engagement with young people in Ireland and select GOAL programme countries focused on creating the learning and empowerment opportunities necessary for positive youth-led change. Find out more here. 

(5) National Youth Council of Ireland: United Nations Youth Delegate Programme for Ireland 2025/26 - 19 March

Applications are now open for Ireland’s United Nations Youth Delegate Programme 2025-2026.Young people from every county are invited to apply for the chance to represent young people living in Ireland, at the UN. Find out more here.

(1) Charities Regulator: Charities Regulator Stakeholder Forum now open for nominations - 25 March

 The Charities Regulator’s stakeholder forum was created in 2023 as a direct channel of communication with charity trustees to ensure the views and feedback of volunteers from across the sector, who are responsible for overseeing the operations of charities, are considered when the Charities Regulator is developing policies, guidance and regulatory materials. While the forum operated on a pilot basis from 2023 to 2024, the Charities Regulator sees it as a long-term initiative. The Regulator is currently seeking nominations for the next stakeholder forum To nominate a charity trustee for the stakeholder forum, please complete the online nomination form. (2) The Afghan Times: Launch of Locked Room: Afghan Women’s Voices - 6 March

This 133 page special edition of the Afghan Times for International Women’s Day is free to download from 6 March 2025. It shares stories of the challenges and resistance of Afghan women in their fight for education, freedom, and dignity. The Afghan Times is now headquartered in Dublin, since the Editor in Chief, women's rights advocate Salma Niazi and her husband Saeedullah Safi were forced to flee their country.
