(1) Launch of the Dóchas Safeguarding Charter & 2024 Edition of the Core Humanitarian Standard
On Monday 9th of December, Dóchas launched the updated Dóchas Safeguarding Charter. At the same time, we were pleased to host the Irish Country launch of the updated Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS), 2024 Edition.
At the event, we heard from a panel of speakers including CHS Alliance Executive Director, Tanya Wood, and leaders and safeguarding experts amongst the Dóchas membership including Margaret Rooney, Safeguarding Advisor at Trócaire, Feargal O'Connell, CEO of Self Help Africa, and Carol Morgan, Head of International Programmes and Deputy CEO of Concern Worldwide.

The Ubuntu Network, in association with the Education Department at Maynooth University, invites you to attend an Assembly event on the theme of Navigating the Space between Conflict and Curiosity: Exploring Controversial Issues in GCE which takes place on Wednesday, 15th January 2025 in Maynooth University. This daylong event will explore key challenges associated with teaching sensitive and emotive issues within GCE and particularly within a teacher education context. It will consider questions relating to educators’ positionality and values, the balance between responsible and free speech, and what pedagogical approaches might be effective. (5) Irish Red Cross: Humanitarian Response Officer - International
The International Department of the IRC plays a crucial role in this mission by providing humanitarian assistance to vulnerable communities worldwide. By collaborating with partner National Societies, the department responds to emergencies, such as disasters and conflicts and implements long-term development programmes in areas like livelihoods, health and National Society Development. The Humanitarian Response Officer will play a critical role in responding to international humanitarian crises. The Officer will be responsible for the planning, implementation and monitoring of programmes as well as resource mobilisation and stakeholder engagement. This role requires a strong understanding of international humanitarian principles and the ability to travel, often at short notice, and work effectively in complex and challenging environments. (6) Self Help Africa: Multiple Opportunities
Fundraising Database and Administration Officer
The purpose of this new role is to support online and offline Fundraising Campaigns across Direct Marketing; Face to Face Fundraising; Regular Giving, Digital Campaigns, Community and Events Fundraising. The Fundraising Database and Administration Officer will be responsible for the Self Help Africa Donor CRM and associated financial processes; data analysis and reporting in order to achieve excellence in donor care and contribute to data driven fundraising and marketing activity across Ireland and the UK. Finance Systems Manager
This is a very exciting independent senior role in the SHA finance team as the organisation is going through a period of transition and requires systems and processes improvements. Key responsibilities of the Finance Systems Manager include analysing and improving current financial and compliance processes, continuing the rollout of our financial system across our country programmes, ensuring compliance with regulations, and driving continuous systems improvement in finance operations. Aspiring candidates must have strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills, as well as process improvement, financial expertise and IT knowledge. (8) Centre for Global Education: Assistant Editor
The Centre for Global Education invites applications for the post of Assistant Editor that will involve supporting publication of our peer-reviewed, open access, bi-annual journal Policy and Practice: A Development Education Review. This position represents an exciting opportunity to work on one of the most influential publications in the development education sector. The post is part-time (17.5 hours), the salary is £26,760.00 per annum pro rata (plus employer’s NIC and Pension contributions). (9) Opportunity Green: Senior Manager
Established in 2021, Opportunity Green is a fast-growing not-for-profit organisation that helps to identify and unlock opportunities to tackle climate change. The role is a Senior Manager in our newly formed EU team. The Senior Manager will use their EU and Irish policy expertise to work with policymakers in Ireland to increase climate ambition during the period of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, with a particular focus on the international aviation sector. (1) The Wheel: Leadership Breakfast Academy - 12 December
The Leadership Academy is delighted to bring the Breakfast Club to the Institute for Lifecourse and Society in University of Galway on Thursday 12 December to discuss Leadership and Persistence. (1) Irish Rule of Law International: Horsehair Wigs Podcast - Episode 19 with Deborah Ruiz Verduzco
For the latest episode of Irish Rule of Law International’s (IRLI) Horsehair Wigs podcast, journalist and broadcaster Evelyn McClafferty catches up with Deborah Ruiz Verduzco, the Executive Director of Trust Fund for Victims at the ICC (TFV). Based in The Hague, Netherlands, TFV is a central part of the court’s mandate: the reparative justice pillar of the court, giving effect to victims’ right to redress. They discuss a new era of reparative justice for the ICC, that’s according to Verduzco, who offers great insight into the workings of the fund – a fund which has been heavily criticised for failing to deliver on its mandate. (1) Irish Global Health Network: IGHN Partnerships Programme Grant Round Open
The IGHN Partnerships Programme (formerly the ESTHER Ireland programme) is a well- established, cost-effective model for supporting Institutional Health Partnerships funded by Irish Aid. The 2024 grant round aims to strengthen partnerships’ capacity to demonstrate their impact by funding MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) activities. By prioritising MEAL, the IGHN aims to equip partnerships with the necessary support to assess their progress, quantify outcomes, and build a solid evidence base. Applications are invited from Irish health institutions and organisations engaged in established health partnerships with institutions in low- and middle-income countries. Find out more here.
