Dóchas News 

(1) Launch of the Dóchas Safeguarding Charter & Core Humanitarian Standard 2024 Editon - 9 December 

On Monday 9th of December, Dóchas will be launching the updated Dóchas Safeguarding Charter. At the same time we are pleased to host the Irish Country launch of the updated Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS), 2024 Edition. The event will run from 12-2pm.

At the event, we will hear from a panel of speakers including CHS Alliance Executive Director, Tanya Wood, and leaders and safeguarding experts amongst the Dóchas membership including Margaret Rooney, Safeguarding Advisor at Trócaire, Feargal O'Connell, CEO of Self Help Africa, and Carol Morgan, Head of International Programmes and Deputy CEO of Concern Worldwide.

(1) Irish Network for Education Worldwide: Online Seminar "Education - A Human Right under Threat" with COP29 Report - 10 December

INEW will host an online seminar "Education - A Human Right under Threat" on Tuesday, 10th December, 12.30pm to 2pm. Marking Human Rights Day, the seminar will feature key speakers, including a youth advocate as well as human rights and education specialists, with contributions from the Right to Education Initiative, Education Cannot Wait, and more. The speakers will examine education as a human right, and will explore the threats climate change poses to education sharing insights from COP29. Find out more and register here.

(2) Trinity Long Room Hub Arts and Humanities Research Institute Behind the Headlines: Humanitarianism in Crisis? - 11 December

As humanitarian crises play out across our devices and screens, our latest ‘Behind the Headlines’ panel will explore the changing mandate for humanitarianism. Bringing together world experts, including our academic partners at Boston College, we ask: what is a humanitarian mission, and how has it evolved in view of past and current global conflicts, climate catastrophe, or the shifting terms of refugee and migrant rights? And, what is the role and reach of the university in responding to the challenge of restoring social trust in humanitarian initiatives? Find out more and register here.

(7) Self Help Africa: Multiple Opportunities

Development Education Officer

Self Help Africa (SHA) is seeking to recruit a Development Education (DE) officer to support the implementation of its Irish Aid funded Development Education programme within the formal and informal education sectors and with communities across Ireland. Our DE programme seeks to increase understanding of global inequality, climate justice, gender inequality and ethical trade. The successful candidate will work with the programme coordinator and a network of school workshop facilitators to deliver workshops and other school and community-based activities. Development Education Facilitator

Fundraising Database and Administration Officer

The purpose of this new role is to support online and offline Fundraising Campaigns across Direct Marketing; Face to Face Fundraising; Regular Giving, Digital Campaigns, Community and Events Fundraising. The Fundraising Database and Administration Officer will be responsible for the Self Help Africa Donor CRM and associated financial processes; data analysis and reporting in order to achieve excellence in donor care and contribute to data driven fundraising and marketing activity across Ireland and the UK. (8) Centre for Global Education: Assistant Editor

The Centre for Global Education invites applications for the post of Assistant Editor that will involve supporting publication of our peer-reviewed, open access, bi-annual journal Policy and Practice: A Development Education Review. This position represents an exciting opportunity to work on one of the most influential publications in the development education sector. The post is part-time (17.5 hours), the salary is £26,760.00 per annum pro rata (plus employer’s NIC and Pension contributions). Calls for Tender

(1) Irish Refugee Council: Lead Researcher

The Irish Refugee Council is seeking a Lead Researcher. This research is funded by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission. The aim of this project is to design, conduct and publish research into how holders of refugee status, subsidiary protection and permission to remain (beneficiaries of international protection) experience housing access in Ireland. This research will build on the idea that housing is a cornerstone of integration. The contract duration is approx. 40 weeks, to be agreed in contract. The fixed fee for this work is €8,000. (1) CBM Ireland: Programme Internship

CBM Ireland is looking for an energetic individual who is interested in disability equality and international development. As part of a small yet enthusiastic programmes team, the intern will support in identifying new funding opportunities, support proposal development, lead on the development of high-quality case studies as well as supporting in reporting processes. (1) The Wheel: Leadership Breakfast Academy - 12 December

The Leadership Academy is delighted to bring the Breakfast Club to the Institute for Lifecourse and Society in University of Galway on Thursday 12 December to discuss Leadership and Persistence. This month’s speakers include Tracy Keogh, Founder of Grow Remote, experienced CEO, Director and Chairperson, and Damien Quinn, Founder of Spéire Nua.  As always, this event is free and open to anyone in the sector, at any stage of their leadership journey to apply, but you must register here to attend.

We’re entering a new era of reparative justice for the International Criminal Court. That’s according to the Executive Director of Trust Fund for Victims at the ICC Deborah Ruiz Verduzco, PhD She talks to us about its fundraising efforts on the latest episode of our podcast, Horsehair Wigs. Based in The Hague, Netherlands Trust Fund for Victims at the ICC is a central part of the court’s mandate: the reparative justice pillar of the court, giving effect to victims’ right to redress.This new episode of our podcast gives great insight into the workings of the fund, a fund which has been heavily criticised for failing to deliver on its mandate. (1) Irish Global Health Network: IGHN Partnerships Programme Grant Round Open

The IGHN Partnerships Programme (formerly the ESTHER Ireland programme) is a well- established, cost-effective model for supporting Institutional Health Partnerships funded by Irish Aid. The 2024 grant round aims to strengthen partnerships’ capacity to demonstrate their impact by funding MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) activities. By prioritising MEAL, the IGHN aims to equip partnerships with the necessary support to assess their progress, quantify outcomes, and build a solid evidence base. Applications are invited from Irish health institutions and organisations engaged in established health partnerships with institutions in low- and middle-income countries. Find out more hereClosing date for applications: 24 January
