(1) Dóchas Election Manifesto & Electoral Snapshots Launch
Last week Dóchas launched its Election 2024 Manifesto; "Why Overseas Development Matters". Ireland’s international development programme is at the heart of our foreign policy and presence abroad. At a time when there are multiple intersecting climate, humanitarian and development crises, needs are rising across the world. Decades long progress against poverty is at risk of being lost. The Manifesto calls for the next programme for government to realise Ireland’s commitment to spend 0.7% of GNI on Overseas Development Assistance by 2030, and to Publish a clear spending pathway to achieve 0.7% GNI by 2030.

(1) Irish Rule of Law International (IRLI): Criminal Law Update 2024 - 16 November
On 16th November, Irish Rule of Law International will host the Criminal and Public Law Update 2024 event! The day will be filled with insightful discussions and updates on the latest developments in criminal and public law chaired by Ms Justice Iseult O'Malley SC of the Supreme Court. This event will take place from 09:00 AM GMT at the lecture theatre in the Law Society’s Education Centre in Blackhall Place. Find out more and register here.
(2) INTO: Conference on the Rights of Palestinian Children - 18 January
On Saturday 18, January 2025 the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) will, with the support of Trade Union Friends of Palestine, other Irish trade unions and civil society groups, host a major Conference on the Rights of Palestinian Children in Liberty Hall, Dublin, Ireland from 10am – 4pm. Speakers include experts in the field of education and physical/ psychological health, Palestinian voices, including the voices of young people and trade union activists. (3) IDEA: Global Citizenship Education Research Showcase Event - 25 November
IDEA and Ubuntu are thrilled to invite you to the second edition of our Global Citizenship Education (GCE) Research Showcase on Monday 25 November, 10.00am -12.30pm, online. This event is free of charge. The aim of this event is to showcase contemporary GCE research. You will be introduced to thought-provoking and engaging inputs and have an opportunity to reflect with fellow participants on the applicability of the concepts discussed to your GCE practice. For the purpose of this event, the term research will be taken in its broadest sense, encompassing academic research; action research; documented practice; documented learning; conceptual research articles; case studies etc. Speakers for this event are to be confirmed. Upcoming Meetings, Seminars & Workshops
(1) VSI: VSI November Meetup: ‘Truth vs. Misinformation: Irish and Palestinian Parallels’ - 26 November
Join VSI for our November meetup and workshop, which takes place online on Tuesday, 26th November at 19:00. This month we will be discussing misinformation and how to distinguish it from truth, looking at how it can be used as a tool to amplify harmful narratives. We will be discussing it specifically in relation to the Palestinian cause, using examples from the past in Ireland to draw parallels. This is an informal workshop so no prior experience is needed and it is open to all to attend. Find out more and register here.
(2) IDEA: Multiple Events
Registrations is Now Open for the Code Network Meeting for Code Members Only!
The Irish Development Education Association (IDEA) will be hosting the next Code network meeting for Code of Good Practice Members on Tuesday, 03 December, 10.00am – 4.00pm, in Ashling Hotel, Dublin 8. There are places for two representatives (staff, volunteers etc.) from each Code member. This year, part of the agenda will be dedicated to workshops led by Code members. For members of the IDEA Code of Good Practice, there are two Code network meetings annually (of which Code members must attend at least one). Each year, one Code network meeting takes place online (May) and one in person (November/December). The deadline for registration is 22 November. Find out more here or contact code(at)ideaonline.ie.
Support Workshops on the 2025 Irish Aid Global Citizenship Education Grant Call
The Irish Development Education Association (IDEA) provides support and spaces for members to support one another - in applying for Irish Aid Global Citizenship Education Grants. As in recent years, this year we invite our members and any other actors who are not yet members of IDEA to these workshops.

(3) CBM Ireland & UK: An Open Circle - Inclusively Designing and Financing NDCs: Perspectives from Latin America and Europe - 20 November
This event, hosted by CBM UK & Ireland, the International Disability Alliance (IDA), Climate Action Network Latin America (CANLA), and Climate Action Network Europe (CAN-E), aims to spotlight the importance of inclusivity, equity, and disability awareness in the design, implementation, and financing of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). We will explore findings from newly published shadow NDC reports from Latin America to provide concrete recommendations and a call to action. The event will take place on November 11 at 11.30am until 13.00pm. It will take place at UNFCCC COP29 Side Event Room 9 but will also be broadcasted online. Find out more and register here.
(4) ActionAid: Multiple Events
Webinar on Corporate Accountability & Strengthening Gender Inclusivity - 20 November
ActionAid invites you to a webinar on the 20th November at 2pm GMT on corporate accountability and how to strengthen gender equality and women's rights in the transposition process of the EU Corporate Sustainable Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). The webinar follows on from the release of our latest report “Towards a gender-responsive transposition of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive”. The event will include a brief presentation of the report followed by a panel discussion where policy experts and activists will dive into the findings and discuss possible ways forward for EU member states. Women by Women Photo Exhibition - 2 December
ActionAid’s Women by Women exhibition 2024 is championing the leadership of women living through displacement who are shattering stereotypes about refugees and those seeking asylum from persecution or serious harm. At the event, we will host a panel discussion on gender equality, refugee rights and the role of women’s rights organisations in advocating for change, alongside a virtual tour of the exhibition. (5) Concern Worldwide: CADA Development Officer
The Development Officer will play an important role in strengthening and expanding the network of Aid and Development Agencies in Northern Ireland. This post, funded by a three-year grant, will focus on fostering collaboration, inspiring change, and influencing policy within the Coalition. CADA’s Strategic Plan 2024- identified 3 areas of focus: Supporting and Developing the Network, Inspiring Change and Influencing Policy. (6) Self Help Africa: Compliance Manager
Self Help Africa is an international development organisation that works through agriculture and Agri-enterprise development to end hunger and extreme poverty. In 2021, Self Help Africa merged with United Purpose, doubling our size. The Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU) International Department seeks to recruit a Strategic Capacity Builder on a one-year fixed term contract basis, based in Freetown Sierra Leone, with some travel in Sierra Leone. Working with colleagues in the Sierra Leonean credit union movement, the strategic capacity builder role is seen as a role that can help establish some of the key foundations needed for the long-term success of the movement. The main focus is to help establish some key functions and management disciplines and transition relevant knowledge and expertise to Sierra Leonean colleagues so that they have the capacity to develop the credit union movement over the longer-term. (1) Afri: Cultivating Emotional Intelligence for a More Peaceful World - 20 November
Join us for an engaging Global Citizenship training designed specifically for secondary school teachers led by the fantastic facilitator Pete Mullineaux. This interactive session focuses on building emotional intelligence in classrooms through creative methodologies to empower students to explore and take action on critical issues such as war, injustice, climate change, forced migration, hunger and poverty. The in-person training will take place on Wednesday, November 20th in Carmelite Community Centre, Dublin and is free to attend. Find out more and register here.
(2) Meath Partnership: "Connecting Cultures - Sustaining Our World" GCE Training - 19 - 26 November
As part of our Irish Aid funded project ‘Connecting Cultures – Sustaining Our World’, we are offering a free two day GCE course for Adult and Community Educators, Community practitioners and activists to build their understanding of the principles of integration and inclusion through a GCE lens. The aim of this training is to support both community practitioners and citizens to deepen the understanding of the complexity attached to the prevalent issues affecting communities across the globe and we are delighted to welcome Dr Lilian Nwanze as guest speaker. (1) IRLI: Latest Episode of the IRLI Podcast Available Now
The latest guest on IRLI’s podcast is Dr Seán Columb, who for over 10 years has been investigating the illegal organ trade. He sits down with journalist and broadcaster Evelyn McClafferty to discuss his work in the area. Dr Columb is a legal academic - a senior lecturer in law at the School of Law and Social Justice at Liverpool University. Since 2014, he has been doing research on the illegal organ trade, primarily in Egypt, and has spoken to over 40 people from countries including Sudan, South Sudan, and Eritrea. All of them were fleeing conflict or the legacy of conflict, and they sold an organ out of economic necessity. Find out more and listen here.

WeAct is a national, public awareness campaign to promote the value, impact and understanding of the charity and community sector in Ireland. For our campaign to be successful, we need to ensure it’s as informed and relevant as possible. We need accurate, up-to-date information so we can evolve the campaign to best meet the needs of our sector, and those who work and volunteer in it. But to do that, we need your help! (2) ActionAid: ActionTalks Annual National Speech Writing Competition
ActionAid Ireland today launched the ActionTalks, a speechwriting competition on important global themes open to young people from across the country aged between 14 and 18 years-old. The competition – now in its 11th year - is aimed at encouraging students to explore the underlying causes of both local and global injustices, giving them a platform to share their perspectives.There are three themes this year: The climate crisis, women’s leadership in emergencies, and the role of overseas aid and women’s rights organisations.
