(1) Request for Volunteers Who Speak Arabic, French & Spanish

Dóchas is commencing a translation project As part of the process, we require volunteers from our membership who speak Arabic, French and Spanish to help proofread a number of documents over the next few weeks. Total time per language will be one hour. Please contact comms(at)dochas.ie with any interest.

(2) Charity Trustees Week: Safeguarding: What should a Trustee know? - 12 November

As part of Charity Trustees Week 2024, Dóchas will host a webinar titled “Safeguarding: What Should a Trustee Know?” on Tuesday 12 November at 11 am. This event aims to inform charity trustees and board members about safeguarding and how they can support the implementation of safeguarding measures and the development of a strong safeguarding culture. Speakers will be drawn from amongst Dóchas membership and Member Board Trustees. Speakers will discuss key issues in Safeguarding followed by a Q&A from the audience. This event will be hosted by the Dóchas Safeguarding Working Group. Find out more about the event and register here.

Upcoming Events & Conferences 

(1) IRLI: Annual Commercial Law Conference - 24 October

Irish Rule of Law International (IRLI) will host its 2024 Commercial Law Conference on Thursday, 24th October from 4 - 6.30pm at the Distillery Building and is sponsored by Matheson LLP. The aim of the conference is to (offer a platform for both solicitors and barristers to share knowledge and expertise on commercial law; and to offer an opportunity to network. This year, the theme will be "Recent Commercial Litigation Updates". Rossa Fanning, Attorney General, will deliver the keynote address. Judge Liam Kennedy will facilitate a panel of speakers including David Whelan SC, Joe Jeffers SC, Una Nesdale BL, Ruadhán Kenny (Partner at Matheson) and Kate Harnett (Of Counsel at A&L Goodbody). (2) Irish Global Health Network: Multiple Events

Irish Aid Annual Professor Father Michael Kelly Lecture on HIV and AIDS - 28 November

The annual Irish Aid Professor Father Michael Kelly HIV Lecture is held every year to coincide with World AIDS Day. Every year, this event gives us an opportunity to come together as a community, to keep ourselves up-to-date in terms of the current priorities for HIV and AIDS and importantly to ensure that we keep HIV high on the agenda. This year, the event will be held on Thursday 28th November, from 16:30-19:00 Irish Time, at Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin. This year’s focus will be on the important theme of Remember and Commit. IGHNX 2025: Global Health Reimagined - 13 February

Welcome to the second installment of IGHNx the event that turns global health topics on their head, and challenges the way we think about common themes. Join us at our very own version of a TEDx event where global health professionals, innovators, and change-makers will gather to share insights and experiences to spark groundbreaking conversations in the global health field. (3) SADIE Network: The right to food, the reality of hunger: Food insecurity on the margins - 9 December

The SADIE Network are hosting a hybrid symposium on the 9th of December from 9am to 5pm. The symposium will be held in the Trinity Long Room Hub but can also be accessed online. This symposium will bring together international voices on food insecurity, including academics, practitioners and experts by experience. Focusing on persons and communities pushed to the margins by colonialism, ableism and other forms of systemic marginalisation, the symposium will highlight the disproportionate impact of food insecurity on those groups who find themselves in spaces of exclusion. (4) GISF: Save the date: Global Security Risk and Policy Conference - 25-27 February 2025

In February 2025, GISF will host its inaugural Global Security Risk and Policy Conference. The 2025 conference is titled "At what cost? The true cost and value of security risk management". The event will be themed around funding and resourcing forNGO security risk management. We will bring together representatives from UN agencies, major government donors, humanitarian networks and senior NGO staff to shape commitments to improve the safety and security of aidworkers. (1) Saolta: Making spACE for GCE - 5 November

(2) The Wheel: Leadership Academy Breakfast Club

The Leadership Academy is delighted to present the next event of their Breakfast Club series on the topic of Leadership & Technology, taking place on Thursday 7 November from 10:00am to 11:30am. As technology and remote work embed in our lives now, the panel will discuss technology and answer some questions such as "How does technology effect leadership styles?" and "In what wasy has technology changed the way we lead?". To answer these, the Breakfast Club will welcome Sheena Horgan, Board Director and former CEO of Drinkaware and Psychological Society of Ireland, and Dr. Colin Hughes, Head of the Graduate Business School at TU Dublin. (3) Centre for Global Education: Seminar: Development Education Silences - 19 November

Centre for Global Education and the DICE Project invite participation in an online seminar to share and debate the content of Issue 39 of Policy and Practice on the theme "Development Education Silences". It will be held on Tuesday, 29 November 2024 from 12.00 - 1.30pm. The speakers are: Mostafa Gamal (Lecturer, Queen Margaret University, Scotland); Caroline Muphy (CEO, Comhlámh); Jen Simpson (Global Learning Researcher); and Aoife Titley (Lecturer, Maynooth University, Chair). (5) GOAL: Multiple Opportunities 

Food and Nutrition Security Advisor

The Food & Nutrition Security Advisor will contribute to the achievement of GOAL’s global strategy: From Crisis to Resilience, and is responsible for supporting GOAL’s global programme addressing food and nutrition insecurity using a systems approach. The position is based in any GOAL country of operation in which the applicant has the right to work, with up to 20% travel to support Country Offices (COs) and represent GOAL with key stakeholders. Senior Individual Giving Officer

GOAL is looking to hire an Individual Giving Officer – which is a newly created key role within the fundraising department. It will support the development and management of the individual giving strategy for GOAL. (9) UNHCR Ireland: Senior Programme Associate

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency is recruiting a Senior Programme Associate to manage a new project from its Dublin office. The project aims to embed trauma informed practice in the provision of accommodation to international protection applicants in Ireland. The successful candidate will drive delivery and oversight of the project, working closely with a consultant specialised in this area, as well as other UNHCR colleagues and contracted service providers. (1) Christian Aid: Request for Proposals: Refining ‘Cases of Change’ approach for Multi-Country Learning and Evaluation

CAI seeks an external consultant, to help us refine the 'cases of change' methodology and process by working with CAI and country team to evolve thinking in a number of areas. In addition, the consultant will help to fully articulate methodology to use the cases of change for Portfolio level learning. No travel is required, and the consultant can be based in any country. (2) Centre for Global Education: Research Consultancy

The Centre for Global Education invites tenders for a research study titled “Poverty in Northern Ireland: From the Local to the Global” which aims to discern the main drivers of poverty in Northern Ireland and persistent trends, and to make informed recommendations that could support anti-poverty policy interventions. The research will frame poverty in Northern Ireland in a comparative context by drawing upon the work of UK, all-island and international poverty data and analysis. (1) STAND: Changemakers Academy

The Changemakers Academy is STAND’S most extensive and in-depth programme, designed for university students passionate about global issues and social justice activism. Tailored for those with solid involvement in activism or a keen interest in making a difference, this comprehensive programme spans five months between autumn and spring each year, featuring four weekends of intensive sessions and a transformative week-long Winter School. Our programme is carefully crafted to equip participants with the confidence, skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience needed to advocate for global justice. Find out more here. (2) Eurocheck Security: Hostile Environment Course - 11-13 November

Our hostile environment courses are suitable for individuals who are working in or are going to work in medium to high-risk areas. This security awareness course also includes sessions on kidnap, landmines, trauma, sexual assault. The course also includes pre-course reading, exercises and role plays. Our main courses are conducted in Kildare but we can also run short bespoke courses at your own location. We also conduct online hostile environment and security awareness courses. (3) Centre for Humanitarian Action at UCD - Doctoral Scholarship Opportunity

The Centre for Humanitarian Action at University College Dublin is offering a fully funded doctoral scholarship. Proposals are welcome concerning any aspect of the intersection of governance and the fields of disaster risk reduction and/or climate adaptation. Potential study areas could include, but are not limited to, vulnerability and risk assessment, risk perception of diverse stakeholders, and the role of the state and/or humanitarian actors in disaster risk reduction/climate adaptation.The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr Ronan McDermott. (4) Saolta: Training of Trainers in Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) - 24 October 

This training is free and open to all adult and community educators across the island of Ireland. This series of workshops has been specifically tailored to build the knowledge and capacity of ACE practitioners to confidently address controversial issues as they arise in an appropriate manner and to promote the core values of social justice, equality and inclusiveness- through the lens of Global Citizenship Education. (5) Common Purpose: Beacon - A Comprehensive Leadership Development Programme

The clock is firmly ticking, and we have just under two weeks until Beacon, Common Purpose's new programme for high potential leaders, starts.
