Upcoming Events & Conferences

(1) Plan International Ireland: International Day of the Girl 11th October - Girls in Crisis Photo Exhibition

You are invited to the opening of our Girls in Crisis photo exhibition which we are staging to mark International Day of the Girl this year and which will run until November 1st at dlr Lexicon in Dún Laoghaire. The exhibition, will be opened by television personality and long-time Plan supporter Laura Whitmore, and will  feature compelling photographs that capture the lives girls from Sudan, Gaza and Ukraine demonstrating strength and resilience in the midst of conflict and displacement. Each photo tells a powerful story of the obstacles these girls face and the hope they have for their future. The exhibition  opening will take place drl Lexicon, Dún Laoghaire on Friday 11th October, from 6pm -8pm  and refreshments will be provided. Find out more and register here

(2) National Women's Council of Ireland: Where are women organising? Dublin Arts and Human Rights Festival - 15 October

National Women's Council of Ireland, in partnership with the Dublin Arts & Human Rights festival, has created this online event of women leading in the trade union movement, anti racist and reproductive rights activism, and international solidarity campaigning. Women have always been at the forefront of organising, campaigning and agitating for change across many crucial issues. Their style, determination and flexibility has often been overlooked. This online discussion will capture how and where women are leading in the current struggles for women’s rights. Find out more and register here.

(3) Concern Worldwide: COP ON ! with Concern Worldwide 2024 - 19 October

Join Concern for a day of climate action, workshops and panels on Saturday October 19th at The Complex in Dublin. COP ON will explore climate justice, policy, and diplomacy through workshops from NYCI, Friends of the Earth, Climate Negotiators, the Feminist Communities for Climate Justice, and Concern. Concern’s new youth climate ambassador, Alannah Wrynn, will host a global panel of youth climate activists. We will also hear from Caroline O’Doherty from the Irish Independent and Kevin O’Sullivan from the Irish Times on how they tackle the challenges of communicating climate change. (4) International Rule of Law Ireland (IRLI): Annual Conference: Recent and Key Commercial Litigation Updates - 24 October

We will be hosting our annual commercial law conference on the 24th October, from 4:00pm to 6:30pm at the Gaffney Room, Distillery Building, 145-151 Church Street, Dublin. The theme of the conference will be "Recent and Key Commercial Litigation Updates" with Rossa Fanning, Attorney General who will deliver the opening address and Justice Liam Kennedy will chair the event. (5) National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI): Youth Climate Justice Conference - 26 October

This youth-led event was created by young people, for young people. It is an opportunity for young people who are already working towards Climate Justice to showcase their work, learn from one another, gain activism skills, and to meet like-minded peers. The event will take place from 10am to 3.30pm in the Alex Hotel Dublin. This event is for young people aged 14-24, and Youth Workers are welcome to accompany the young people they work with. (6) DSAI: Annual Conference: Achieving Just Food Systems in Era of Global "Polycrisis"' - 30 & 31 October

DSAI Annual Conference will take place on 30th & 31st October in Cork. The theme is Achieving just food systems in era of global ‘polycrisis’. A number of pre-conference events will take place on the 30th prior to the opening plenary. Early bird rates are available until the end of September. Find out more and register here.

(7) IFIAD: Annual Conference: Financing Zero Hunger - 6 November

The Irish Forum for International Agricultural Development (IFIAD) will host its Annual Conference on 6th November, 10am – 3pm, Iveagh House, Dublin, with the support of Irish Aid, Department of Foreign Affairs. With only 6 years remaining until 2030, this year's conference will focus on Financing Zero Hunger. Find out more and register here. 

(8) Transparency International Ireland: Online Conference 2024: Integrity at Work Week - 25 November

Join us for Integrity at Work Week 2024, an online conference from 25 to 28 November dedicated to creating ethical and transparent workplaces worldwide. Hosted by Transparency International Ireland in partnership with esteemed partner organisations, this event brings together leaders, professionals, and academics from various sectors to discuss critical issues in workplace ethics, whistleblowing, and compliance. Upcoming Meetings, Seminars & Workshops 

(1) Beyond Barriers: Webinar on 'Overcoming Obstacles to Achieve a Localised Humanitarian Response' - 3 October

We are pleased to invite you to a presentation of the findings from the Beyond Barriers research project on localisation. The Beyond Barriers project, funded by USAID Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance, led by Concern Worldwide in partnership with a team of five research partners and with funding from USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), aimed to identify the barriers that limit locally-led humanitarian action and propose actionable solutions to those challenges. (2) VSI: Our Shared Future: Creating your Climate Utopia - 5 October

You are invited to VSI’s next monthly meetup which takes place in-person in Dublin on Saturday 5th October from 14:00 – 16:00. This meetup is on ‘Future climate utopias’, where we will explore what our ideal climate future would look like. It will take place in Carmichael Centre for Voluntary Organisations, Dublin 7 and refreshments will be provided. Public transport costs will be reimbursed if coming from outside Dublin. (3) WHH, Concern Worldwide & IFHV: Launch of the 2024 Global Hunger Index - 10 October

As the world commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 20th anniversary of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Right to Food, international law and the universal right to adequate food are blatantly disregarded in many parts of the world. Conflict, climate change and economic crises converge to exacerbate structural inequalities and fuel the hunger crisis. Widespread gender inequality increases vulnerability to food and nutrition insecurity, and to the impacts of climate change. Join us as we discuss the findings of the 2024 Global Hunger Index and explore how advancing gender justice can create a climate-resilient world where all people are guaranteed the right to adequate food to lead healthy, productive lives. (4) Plan International Ireland: Peace Palette: Youth Art for a Just World - 12 October

Join our Youth Advisory Panel for an exciting and creative event where members will collaborate to create a unique art piece that reflects their vision for a better future for girls around the world. (5) National Women's Council of Ireland: Film Screening: She Rises Up - 22 October

October 17th is International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. In support, we are screening licenses for She Rises Up. This film reveals the explosive implications of women’s economic participation as we follow radically different women from Sri Lanka, Peru and Senegal who are fighting to build businesses that create job opportunities for women, while also contributing to the reduction of poverty in their communities.Join us online or in our offices at 100 North King Street, Dublin 7 to watch the film together on Tuesday 22nd October at 6.30pm. (6) Global Village: Weekly online Ciorcal Comhrá/Irish Language Conversation Group

Global Village is a Global Citizenship Education (GCE) programme for primary schools in Ireland. It aims to support primary school pupils to become active global citizens committed to building a fairer and more sustainable world. Global Village is initiating a weekly online Ciorcal Comhrá (Irish language conversation group) on Wednesdays from 11-11.30a.m. starting on Wednesday 25th September. Tá lán fáilte romhaibh! You are very welcome to join us for as many or as few sessions as suits you. We expect that participants will have varying levels of Irish, and all are welcome. Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) Therapist

The NET Therapist plays a crucial role by providing NET support to persons experiencing symptoms of post traumatic stress. Clients will be identified and services will be provided according to NET approach and ensuring the highest level of care for individuals in need. Branch Accountant

The purpose of the role is to review and audit the IRC Area and Branch financial returns for the production of the year end consolidated financial statements for 2024. Global Cash Advisor (Maternity Cover)

The Global Cash Adviser is responsible for technical and strategic support on Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) across all regions that GOAL operates. The Global Cash Advisor sits within GOAL’s global Programme Technical Team, which ensures the technical quality of programme design and implementation through developing strategy and guidelines, collaboration on new programming, support visits to countries, evaluations, documenting and sharing learning, and providing external technical representation. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Trócaire’s Board of Directors. We are looking for an individuals with International Development/ Humanitarian expertise and experience. The Board has five Committees. The Board member who is currently being recruited would also sit on the International Programmes Advisory Committee (IPAC). For the latest episode of Irish Rule of Law International’s podcast Horsehair Wigs - they catch up with Irish professor Raphael Heffron to discuss the rule of law and how its principles are the primary drivers in the shift towards cleaner technologies and a healthier environment. Mr. Heffron is currently a Professor in Energy Law, Energy Justice and the Social Contract at University De Pau Et Des Pays De L'adour, France, and is also a qualified Barrister-at-Law.
