(1) Upcoming Seminar: From Presentation to Representation: Participation and working collaboratively and collectively with Disabled People and their Organisations (DPOs) - 4 October

The Dóchas Disability in International Development Working Group invites you to join us online on October 4th at 11.30 for a one-hour seminar titled ' From Presentation to Representation: participation and working collaboratively with Disabled People and their Organisations (DPOs)' - an international perspective. Working in partnership is where we find local solutions to local challenges, and it is a key aspect of disability equality. Meaningful engagement and support are also vital elements, helping us reach those often overlooked in many spaces and amplifying their voices. In this talk, we will hear from disabled and non-disabled panelists from Kenya, Malawi, and Ireland about these issues and more, from an international, and indeed national, perspective. Find out more and register here.

(2) Dóchas Annual Membership Feedback Survey and Network Mapping Survey

This September, Dóchas will be inviting members to participate in its annual feedback survey. This survey is an important tool for us to gather insights into our performance and identify potential areas for further collaboration within the network. In addition to the feedback survey, Dóchas will also distribute a brief Network Mapping Survey. This survey builds on a network mapping exercise initiated in 2022 and aims to continue the collection of information from the first round. The data collected will help us map the profiles, connections, and shared interests of our members. Both surveys will be sent to focal points from member organisations next week.

As the world commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 20th anniversary of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Right to Food, international law and the universal right to adequate food are blatantly disregarded in many parts of the world. Conflict, climate change and economic crises converge to exacerbate structural inequalities and fuel the hunger crisis. Widespread gender inequality increases vulnerability to food and nutrition insecurity, and to the impacts of climate change. Join us as we discuss the findings of the 2024 Global Hunger Index and explore how advancing gender justice can create a climate-resilient world where all people are guaranteed the right to adequate food to lead healthy, productive lives.
