Upcoming Events & Conferences 

(1)  IDEA: Register for the IDEA Annual Conference 2024 and IDEA’s 20th Anniversary - 4 September 

The Irish Development Education Association (IDEA) is delighted to share that registration for the annual conference, “United in Impact: Celebrating Our Journey, Charting Our Future,” is now open. This event will take place on Wednesday, 4 September, at Richmond Barracks in Dublin. This year’s event will be a chance to celebrate their shared history, acknowledge, the present context, and envision an impactful future for GCE. This year also marks 20 years since IDEA’s establishment as a network for DE in Ireland. Find out more here

(1)  VSI: July Meetup & Workshop: Global Stigma around Menstrual Health - 30 July

Join VSI for their online meetup and workshop on global stigma around menstrual health on Tuesday, 30 July at 19:00. During the meetup, we will discuss the different ways in which women’s menstrual health is stigmatised around the world. This meetup is open to all and we encourage everyone to attend! (2)  Saolta: Multiple Activities

Equality, Diversity, Inclusion Community of Practice for ACE Practitioners - 18 July 

The Communities of Practice is a space for people engaged with the Saolta network and is designed by its members to benefit from sharing best practice, resources, support, and solidarity. The specific theme of this Community of Practice (CoP) is Equality, Diversity and Inclusion- with a specific focus on GCE for Everyone - Reaching those vulnerable to social exclusion, marginalisation. Community Summer BBQ Series for PPN members

Saolta is hosting a number of community BBQs this summer. These are an opportunity to bring PPN members together to celebrate your work and reinforce the networks of PPNs. They will be a practical and experiential exploration of how PPNs are a great way to take action on the local and global issues we face. We will explore ecosystem restoration in the context of the SDGs, the decade of ecosystem restoration, and why global citizenship education is key for them to be achieved. These BBQs will be held in several locations over the coming weeks:

(3) ActionAid: Women of Palestine Webinar - 23 July 

Join us for “Women of Palestine”, a conversation with journalist Justine McCarthy and ActionAid Palestine Advocacy and Communications Coordinator, Riham Jafari. This event will give you an opportunity to learn more about ActionAid’s work in Gaza, how we support women during emergencies and promote women’s leadership and rights on the frontline. (5) Irish Red Cross: Multiple Opportunities 

Housing Coordinator - Migration

The Migration Housing Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day provision of Housing functions for the Irish Red Cross Migration Department. This work will focus on ensuring the organisation and programme is properly aware and advised of relevant housing regulations, that there is engagement with relevant authorities as appropriate, and that pledge accommodation is brought online to meet the needs of programme participants. Procurement/Caseworker Support Officer - Migration Services

The Irish Red Cross is tasked under its mandate as an auxiliary to the Irish Government to provide pledged accommodation to the Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection (BOTPs) from Ukraine and to Programme Refugees referred to IRC by the Irish Government. This position will support the procurement of goods and casework support for homes offered to the Irish Red Cross Register of Pledges. This role will, among other responsibilities, focus on following procurement procedures to purchase goods to support the pledged accommodation programme. Find out more here. Closing date: 23 July

Migration Services Caseworker

The casework role for the Irish Red Cross encompasses a variety of services including, but not limited to, the Ukraine Pledge Accommodation programme and IRPP mandated resettlement. The Irish Red Cross is tasked under its mandate as auxiliary to the Irish Government to co-ordinate offers of support from the Irish Public, to support the placement of refugees into suitable accommodation and to support the social integration of refugees at community level. (6) National Women's Council of Ireland: Digital Communications Officer

An exciting opportunity has come up to join our team as Digital Communications Officer. If you are passionate about feminism and women’s equality, are an excellent communicator and have experience in digital communications, we want you! We are looking for you to join the team based in Dublin. We work a hybrid model, with two days a week in the office. This post is for a full time (35 hours/week) position for an initial fixed term contract of 12 months. The Digital Communications Officer is responsible for creating highly engaging digital communications campaigns and digital content to support the strategic goals of the organisation. (7) Christian Aid: Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Advisor

This role supports the delivery of Christian Aid Ireland's Programme Strategy, with a focus on providing technical leadership and enhancing the capacity of Christian Aid and partners to work on issues relating to gender and social inclusion and gender-based violence (GBV). The role will also contribute to providing direction and technical input to embed Christian Aid's approach to inclusive programming, gender transformative approaches and gender-based violence work at organisational level. (8) Centre for Global Education: Assistant Editor

The Centre for Global Education seeks an Assistant Editor to support publication of our peer-reviewed, open access journal Policy and Practice: A Development Education Review. This position represents an exciting opportunity to work on one of the most influential publications in the development education sector, both locally and internationally. The post is part-time (17.5 hours), and has a contract from 1 September 2024 to 31 May 2025 with prospects of extension. (9) Plan International: Supporter Retention Officer

We are looking for a dynamic fundraising professional to help develop and deliver
our retention strategy, to motivate and retain our supporters. The primary purpose of the role is to deliver regular giving and cash supporter journeys across a multitude of fundraising channels, to both engage donors and maximise lifetime value. You will have a special focus on planning and delivering sponsorship communications in line with Plan Ireland’s retention strategy and that of the Plan International globally. As a Supporter Retention Officer, you will have the ability to deliver high quality supporter journeys whilst providing exceptional service to key internal and external stakeholders. (10) Front Line Defenders: MEL Manager

The MEL Manager manages the MEL Team. This includes leading on the development and overseeing the roll-out of an organisational MEL system, ensuring accountability to donors and HRDs. The MEL Manager will promote all aspects of MEL to support an organisational culture which prioritises quality programming. This includes leading FLD’s internal learning efforts, developing and overseeing FLD’s evaluation plan, and overseeing adequate implementation of monitoring tools. This is a permanent contract and the role requires 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The salary range is from €52,015 to €66,229, with 26 days annual leave, plus benefits. Find out more here. Our work is only possible with a strong financial management and this role is crucial to the organisation. Consultant to Develop a Resource Pack on Communications

Saolta is seeking a qualified Consultant to develop a comprehensive resource pack on Communications with a focus on Global Citizenship Education. This resource pack will support the Communications modules in FET courses, specifically for Level 4 in Ireland. Communications modules are often mandatory in many FET courses in Ireland. Therefore, the resource pack aims to enhance the understanding and implementation of GCE principles within communications training for educators and learners and contribute to the development of informed, active, and responsible global citizens through ACE in Ireland. (1) Beyond Stigma: Professional Intern

The Wheel and Community Action Network are delighted to announce that the Transformative Leadership Programme is running again for 2024/2025, and applications are now open! Real leadership is all about change - about possessing the right array of skills, abilities and knowledge to be able to bend the arc of history towards justice. The Transformative Leadership Applied Practice Programme will provide you with a Level 8 accreditation by focusing on strengthening and deepening your capacity and ambition as a leader in the Irish community and voluntary sector. Running from January to May 2025, the course consists of four core modules: Personal Leadership Model Building; Understanding and Leading Change; Systems Change; and Building Strategic Alliances. (4) Carmichael & TU Dublin: Certified Charity Trustee Programme

This predominantly online 1 year part time programme has been designed in partnership with Carmichael and TU Dublin. The aim of this programme is to provide participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of their roles and obligations. Since 2021, Charities have been required to report on their compliance with the Charities Governance Code which is designed to help charity trustees meet their legal duties under the Charities Act 2009. With over 11,000 registered charities in Ireland this programme will assist organisations and their trustees to effectively fulfil their roles within an organisation in line with regulatory framework and to be professionally competent within the team to do so. We invite applications for the part-time Certificate in Global Citizenship Education, commencing in September 2024. This one year 20 ECTS postgraduate programme is designed for educators working with learners at all levels - from early childhood to youth, in adult and community education and in schools. (1) IRLI: Listen to the Latest Episode of the Horsehair Wigs Podcast

For the latest episode in Irish Rule of Law International's podcast series, journalist Evelyn McClafferty catches up with Stéphanie Caligara – a lawyer and consultant with the Global Legal Action Network. Her work focuses on environmental and climate litigation, human rights and corporate accountability. She also has experience in investment treaty arbitration. Together they discuss investor state dispute settlement clauses or ISDS mechanisms.
