Dóchas News

(1) Dóchas AGM 2025 (Members only) - 8 May

Dr. Tammam Aloudat, CEO of The New Humanitarian, will deliver a keynote address on ‘The future of ODA – What now?’. Dr Aloudat is a Syrian-Swiss physician with over two decades of experience at the forefront of international humanitarian organisations and is a leading advocate for decolonising global health and advancing humanitarianism. We will also present 2024 highlights and our annual report, elect new members to the Board and address other statutory business. To register please email anna(at)dochas.ie.

(2) Dóchas Terms of Reference for Website Development - 12 May

Dóchas is seeking a service provider to make recommendations and propose options to update the information architecture, user experience and visual design of our website Dochas.ie. We expect that the successful provider will recommend innovative approaches in order to make our website more effective in reaching and engaging with our stakeholders, and in integrating our new member portal into the design. (1) Irish Global Health Network: Ireland’s Restore Humanity Campaign – Reimagining Global Health and Development in the Wake of Aid Cuts: Countries’ Response - 23 April

In the aftermath of Trump’s abrupt $60 billion cut to foreign aid, and as other high-income countries scale back their commitments, there is an urgent need to rethink how health and development are funded and delivered. This moment calls for urgent, bold and decisive strategies to diversify funding streams and strengthen country self-reliance. (2) DCU Institute for Climate and Society: Annual Conference - 29 April

Join us for our conference "Dispatches from a changing climate: Engaging society through activism, storytelling and the arts", taking place on Tuesday 29 April on the DCU Glasnevin Campus. The keynote speaker is Mary Lawlor, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, who will deliver a report to the UN General Assembly this autumn on the challenges faced by human rights defenders working in the context of climate change and a just transition. The conference will also feature a range of speakers from the arts, the media and academia, with a live performance by vocal quartet Landless to close the day. (4) Concern Worldwide: Intergenerational Climate Café with Concern Worldwide! - 30 April

Join Concern's intergenerational climate campaign. Through in person and online climate cafés discussing global issues, we’re gathering voices of all ages to shape a better future. Your thoughts and opinions will be turned into key climate demands forming our intergenerational climate declaration. (5) The Wheel: The Wheel Leadership Academy Breakfast Club - 22 May

On the 22nd May, 10-11:30am, we will be in the Claremont Stadium in County Meath, discussing Leadership and Allyship. An ‘ally’ refers to a person supporting a marginalized group and as the world turns on DEI now more than ever, we need to understand our responsibilities as allies and roles as individuals and leaders. Our speakers are actively committed to allyship and reflecting on their journey. Edel Mc Sorley is Operations Director at Mr. Price Branded Bargains, and Guillaume Jacquinot is Campaign and Advocacy Manager for The Wheel. (6) MTU: DEI Under Threat: Why Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Global Citizenship Education Matters More Than Ever - 10 May

This Deep Dive offers an exciting opportunity for continuing professional development and delving into the topic of equality, diversity, and inclusion in global citizenship education. Joanna Dukkipati of Good Day Cork will be discussing existing barriers to diversity in global citizenship education and pathways to participation. She will be diving into the theme of equity, and using creative methods to manifest inclusive spaces and means to take action. This will be a long day so the workshop will be divided in a way that allows everyone to go between rest, work, and play. Find out more here.

(1) UCD webinar: Peacebuilding in Action - Colombia, Ireland and Beyond - 23 April

Join a cross-instituional webinar with speakers from Catholic University of Colombia, University of Santiago de Compostela and University College Dublin to discover practical evidence-based approaches to peacebuilding in different contexts; learn about experiences from Colombia, Spain, Ireland and beyond in creating sustainable and lasting peace; and learn from international experts on key issues such as political polarization, structural inequality and the gendered dimensions of hunger in peace and conflict. (2) Comhlámh and the Centre for Global Education: Decolonising Economic Development: The Role of the Development Sector - 10 June

Comhlámh and CGE invite participation in this online seminar, which will debate the findings of a research report titled Decolonising Economic Development: The Role of the Development Sector study carried out by academics Surbhi Kesar (SOAS University, London) and Ingrid Harvold Kvangraven (King’s Cross College, London). This research assessed the extent to which international non-governmental organisations (INGOs) in the UK are ‘governing the poor’ through Eurocentric interventions, and challenging existing economic processes and institutions that contribute to underdevelopment for some and development for others. The research was based on analysis of INGOs affiliated to Bond, the UK network for organisations working in international development. Register on Eventbrite here.

(6) Finance Admin Receivables & Income - 25 April

Working as a key part of the Finance Team, the Finance Admin Receivables & Income role will manage the income transactions & records of the organisation working closely with other departments to ensure accurate & timely financial management. (7) Global Hub for Community-Based Health in Detention (CBHinD) Manager - 30 April

The role of the Community-Based Health in Detention Manager is to manage this work internationally, with the expertise that reflects the international credibility of the Irish Red Cross in Community-Based Health in Detention, working collaboratively with ICRC Detention and Health Officers, IFRC Head of Health, Irish Prison Service, Head of Infection Control and other relevant partnerships on which the Global Hub has built. (8) Migration Project Coordinator - 30 April

This Coordinator role will have week to week ongoing responsibility for Migration projects. Reporting to the department manager, the Coordinator will ensure that all project activities are effectively planned, are actioned in a timely manner, and the expected results are achieved. The role will liaise with relevant internal colleagues and external stakeholder and, depending on the project scale, may supervise a number of staff. Find out more here.

(9) Engagement Officer – Migration Programme - 30 April

The Irish Red Cross is tasked under its mandate as auxiliary to the Irish Government to strengthen responses to the welfare and wellbeing needs of Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection (BOTPs) living in state accommodation centres. This role will coordinate with a partnering organisation to develop and deliver capacity building activities for accommodation providers and local support organisations interacting with providers and residents, and provide guidance and support to BOTPs and providers in response to individual issues. Stop Climate Chaos, the civil society coalition campaigning for Ireland to do its fair share to tackle the causes and consequences of climate breakdown, is recruiting a coordinator. Christian Aid is looking to recruit a Programme Advisor in Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution. (14) International Development Foundation, ILCU: Fundraising Officer (Part-Time) - 7 May

We are hiring an interim part-time Fundraising Officer to join our team. The Fundraising Officer will be responsible for focusing on diversifying our income. This is an opportunity to create and implement new strategies to grow additional fundraising income for the Foundation. (2) STAND: Call for tenders - consultant for mid-term review - 5 May

STAND is seeking an experienced consultant to lead the mid-term review of our Global Citizenship Education Strategic Partnership with Irish Aid. This review will evaluate their progress from January 2023 to June 2025 and help shape strategic priorities and an updated results framework. STAND looking for someone with proven expertise in Global Citizenship Education, knowledge of the Higher Education sector in Ireland, and a track record of using participatory evaluation methods. VSI: Programmes Officer and Marketing & Communications Officer ESC volunteers - 5 May

VSI are seeking two ESC volunteers to join the office team for 12 months from June 2025. Volunteers must be aged 18-30 years old and currently residing in Ireland. These roles are full-time (35 hours per week) and are funded by the ESC programme. Find out more here. 

Courses and Training

(1) University College Dublin: Module on Addressing Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies at UCD Centre for Humanitarian Action - 14 April- 16 May

A limited number of spaces are available for practitioners and/or early career researchers interested in addressing gender-based violence (GBV) in disparate humanitarian contexts. This full-time, mostly in-person module will run from 14th April to 16th May 2025 on UCD’s Belfield campus in Dublin, Ireland. Upon successful completion of the module, participants will receive a statement of results from UCD as well as a personalised letter of reference confirming the participant’s achievements on the course. (2) University College Dublin: Micro-credentials Online module on Ethical Dilemmas in Humanitarian Negotiation and Mediation at UCD Centre for Humanitarian Action - 16 June- 4 July

This module is designed to serve as a safe learning space for participants to confront and work through ethical dilemmas that face humanitarian practitioners on a daily basis while negotiating for access or offering informal mediation. The curriculum has been developed with input from sectoral leaders such as PRIO, CCHN and Glencree. The course is based on Universal Design for Learning principles and follows a Problem-Based Learning pedagogical approach. The module will be delivered through a series of live, interactive online workshops with experts complemented by bespoke recorded lectures, journal articles and text-based scenario games based on real-life case studies. (3) STAND: Applications are open for the STAND Ideas Collective - 15 May

The Ideas Collective is STAND’s flagship summer bootcamp for students and recent grads who want to make a real impact. Through hands-on workshops in design thinking, social innovation, communications, leadership, and social enterprise development, participants gain the tools, confidence, and community to turn bold ideas into action. Held in Dublin’s Digital Hub, this 5-day in-person programme helps participants explore the root causes of issues they care about while developing their own project and pitching it for the chance to join an incubator and secure seed funding.
