Dóchas News
(1) Dóchas Annual General Meeting - Members Registration Required
Dóchas Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday 9th May in The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI), 6 Kildare Street, Dublin 2.
Starting at 10am and finishing at 12pm, the AGM will focus on statutory business including elections to the Board, the presentation of our 2023 financial statements, and the presentation of our 2024 budget. The meeting will also discuss a special resolution to amend the Constitution of Dóchas.
Further details and documentation will issue, to those who have registered, prior to the date. Participation at the AGM is open to Dóchas Members only and is free of charge. Please register your attendance, or that of a colleague, by 12 April by emailing anna(at)dochas.ie.
(2) Dóchas Conference and 50th Anniversary Celebration – New Speakers Announced!
We are delighted to share the first round of speakers for Dóchas’ 2024 Annual Conference; 'Dóchas at 50: Sustainable Development in a Time of Climate Crisis’ which will be held on Thursday 9th May at Royal College of Physicians, Kildare Street, Dublin 2. We will be joined by Dr. Hugo Slim, Professor Attiya Waris and Paul Knox Clarke, with more speakers to be announced soon!
This year we celebrate five decades of collaboration amongst International development and humanitarian organisations in Ireland, and our collective vision for a just, equal and sustainable world. Climate change is the defining issue of our time and we are at a defining moment. At this year’s conference, we will explore climate adaptation, anticipatory action, and how we can work together towards a just transition.

(3) Call for Tender - Network and Systems Development
Dóchas is seeking a consultant(s) to provide support in scoping and planning for greater efficiency and dynamism across its network and IT infrastructure. Phase 1 of this project will involve the exploration of automated business processes, within the Salesforce environment, and online community platform tools. Find out more. Closing date: 17 April
(4) Worldview Wave 4 Research Results Launched – Full Recording Available!
The latest wave 4 Worldview survey results were launched on 19 March revealing public support in Ireland for Overseas Development Aid (ODA) remains high at 76% while understanding of the impacts of climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is low. Just 12% of Irish people have heard about and know what the SDGs are. 56% have not heard of them. Irish people believe climate change will have the greatest impact on future generations (59%) and people in developing countries (51%) as against 14% for them personally. (1) Feminist Communities for Climate Justice: Baseline Research Report Launch – 11 April
Join Feminist Communities for Climate Justice, the joint project between the National Women’s Council and Community Work Ireland for the in-person launch of the project’s ground breaking Baseline Research Report at the UCC Centre for Executive Education. The report, carried out be DR> Fiona Dukelow, Dr, Catherine Forde and Edith Busteed of the Department of Applied Social Studies at UCC, examines Irish climate policy and its impact on women, girls and marginalised communities in Ireland. (2) Coalition 2030 European Election Hustings – 18 April
Are you ready to learn more about the candidates running in the upcoming European Elections and what they promise to do to progress sustainable development if elected? Then join us at the ‘Meet the Candidates! European Election Hustings on Sustainable Development‘, moderated by Irish Times journalist Kevin O’Sullivan. (3) Launch of UNFPA State of World Population Report by An Tánaiste Micheál Martin - 18 April
The IFPA and the All Party Oireachtas Interest Group on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights are pleased to host the launch of the annual UNFPA State of World Population report on Thursday April 18th at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel. An Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Micheál Martin TD will launch the report, and UNFPA Principal Advisor for International Development Finance, Ms Jacqueline Mahon will present its key findings. The report, Interwoven Lives, Threads of Hope: Ending inequalities in sexual and reproductive health and rights argues that to end inequalities and create a more just future for all, we must take urgent action to ensure the rights of those furthest behind. (1) Climate Migration: Critical and Varied Perspectives Seminar – 11 April
The Department of Media Studies, Maynooth University; the Department of French, Trinity College Dublin; and Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute are delighted to present this seminar on climate migration, a term which is often referred to within climate activism and policy circles as a potential future climate impact. It’s undisputed that climate change hits hardest on people who are marginalised in different ways, but many different factors affecting people’s lives can intertwine within what’s labelled as ‘climate migration’. The seminar will provide a space for nuanced and critical reflection amongst academics, activists and workers in the environment and human rights sector on the intersecting aspects of this key climate issue. (2) Social Inclusion Forum 2024: Preparatory Workshops - 16 & 22 April
Registration is now open for the Preparatory Workshops for the Social Inclusion Forum (SIF) 2024, hosted by Community Work Ireland (CWI) and the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) Ireland. We will hold two Online Preparatory Workshops focused on how best to tackle key issues and challenges, whether emerging, persistent and/or structural. The first session is on Core Essentials, with a focus on housing, healthcare and transport, on Tuesday 16 April, 10am-12pm. The second is on All Themes, covering each of the four themes of SIF 2024 (Communities; Employment; Disabled People; and Core Essentials) on Monday 22 April, 11am-1pm. (3) COPON! Poetry Slam Workshop - 24 April
Join us at the Concern Office in Grantham Street, Dublin 2, on Wednesday, April 24th at 5.30 pm for our climate-focused slam poetry workshop facilitated by the fantastic spoken word artist Kelvin Akpaloo. Kelvin will introduce you to a whole new way to write poetry, from expressing your feelings about the climate crisis to empowering movements for change. Register here.
(4) VSI In Person Meetup: Stop Food Waste - 27 April
Join VSI at our in-person meetup on Saturday, 27th April! It will take place in Dublin city centre from 14:00 until 16:00. The topic for this month's meetup is Food Waste, to coincide with 'Stop Food Waste!' Day on 24th April. For anybody interested in volunteering, our meetups offer a casual space to learn about VSI and our volunteer opportunities, and to meet like-minded people. Tea and coffee will be served, and travel expenses for those coming from outside Dublin will be reimbursed. Register here.

Call for Tender - Research Services
Trócaire is launching a call for proposals to carry out a research scoping study into the tensions between principled humanitarian response and different forms of human rights work in a context of closing civil society space. This study will build upon Trócaire’s overview analysis of this trend, its drivers, mechanisms, impacts and responses, as set out in the report, “A Struggle for Rights and Freedoms: The Importance of Civil Society Space”. (7) Plan International: Team Lead for Institutional Programmes
The role is as a key management member of the overall Programmes Department leadership team). This team is responsible for developing, growing and delivering Plan International Ireland’s grant portfolio. Reporting to the Head of Programmes and being based in Dublin, you will coordinate and oversee a small team dedicated to the strategic planning and management of an assigned donor project portfolio, ensuring good quality proposals and programme delivery along the project cycle. Senior Communications Consultant
The Irish Development Education Association (IDEA) is seeking an experienced Senior Communications Consultant to work with us on an ongoing basis over the next three months with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate would lead the implementation of the IDEA Communications strategy, and work with us 8-12 hours per week. We welcome applications from both individuals and agencies, and the successful candidate must ensure consistency in regular liaison with IDEA staff. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate high commitment to IDEA’s mission and can liaise with all members of the IDEA team in a communications’ leadership role. (10) Irish Rule of Law: Call for Tender
IRLI is looking for a Consultant to carry out an Evaluation of their Tanzania Programme. Candidates should provide a technical proposal explaining their comprehension of the Terms of Reference (ToR) and how they would approach this assignment, as well a financial proposal, guided by the allocated budget, outlining their expected fees and other expenses. Afri (Action from Ireland), the peace and global justice organisation, is recruiting a new Coordinator, who will lead the implementation of Afri’s programme of events, education and campaigning and maintain the unique culture and way of working that distinguishes Afri. Afri’s key areas of concern currently include: 1) militarisation 2) food sovereignty, 3) climate justice, and 4) migration and refugees. The Centre for Global Education (CGE) and Financial Justice Ireland (FJI) are seeking a consultant to carry out research on challenges and opportunities to address the dominant economic paradigm in development education. This initiative will build upon baseline research successfully commissioned by CGE and FJI in 2022. It will act upon the research report’s central recommendation to investigate why the international development and development education sectors are not engaging with neoliberalism as the root cause of poverty. (1) STAND’s Summer Bootcamp for Changemakers
Apply to STAND’s Ideas Collective 2024 – our summer bootcamp where you will learn the skills and techniques to shape your solutions for positive change. Over three weekends, you will delve into global issues and perspectives, examine your own values and purpose, and acquire tools in design thinking, as well as skills in pitching, presenting, communications, and marketing. (2) PhD Scholarship on Food (In)Security and Violent Conflict at UCD
The School of Politics and International Relations (SPIRe) at University College Dublin is pleased to offer a new fully-funded Ad Astra doctoral scholarship on a subject related to the intersection of food (in)security and violent conflict. The successful candidate will undertake a PhD under the supervision of Dr. Caitriona Dowd, starting in September 2024. The scholarship will provide tuition fees up to the non-EU rate; a yearly stipend of €25,000; and an annual research budget of €4,000 for research-related expenses such as data collection, attending conferences, etc. The scholarship is for a maximum of four years on a full-time basis only. (3) Hostile Environment Course by Eurocheck Security – 22-24 April 2024
Our hostile environment courses are suitable for individuals who are currently working in or are going to work in medium to high-risk areas. They will help to ensure that you keep yourself and those you are working with safer. The course covers all elements of security awareness as well as pre-course reading, exercises and role plays. Our main courses are conducted in Kildare but we can also run short bespoke courses at your own location. We also conduct online hostile environment and security awareness courses. (4) Certificate in Global Citizenship Education at Maynooth University
The Department of International Development, Maynooth University, invites applications for its part-time Certificate in Global Citizenship Education, commencing in September 2024. This one year 20 ECTS postgraduate programme is designed for educators working with learners at all levels - from early childhood to youth, in adult and community education and in schools. Addressing the major global challenges facing our world, it offers participants a unique learning experience and training in GCE, shaped by peer reflection and applied learning. Find out more here.

(1) UCD Quinn Summer Internship Programme is seeking Organisations to host Summer Interns
The UCD Quinn School of Business invites Dublin based International Development organisations to host business interns for a 6 week placement this Summer as part of the UCD Quinn Summer Internship Programme. Summer internships may be subject to either hybrid or in-person working arrangements, depending on individual company arrangements. Commencing from 24 June through to 1 August (Mondays to Thursdays), the programme attracts applications from students in top tier undergraduate business schools primarily from the United States seeking internships in the areas of finance, accounting, marketing, business development, business analytics and HR. (2) The Wheel: Grants Available for Training Networks
The Wheel is delighted to launch Training Links 2024 – 2026. Training Links funds community and voluntary organisations to form Training Networks — groups of organisations who come together to undertake training that they may not have the opportunity to do individually. Training Networks must have a minimum of ten members, and over the course of the programme, members will work together to address a specific workforce training goal. Training Networks are invited to apply for grants ranging from €10,000.00 to €50,000.00.
