Charity Trustees Week at Dóchas: Safeguarding for Trustees: Roles and Responsibilities
During Charity Trustees Week, the Dóchas Safeguarding Working Group will raise awareness of Safeguarding roles and responsibilities.

The Dóchas Safeguarding Working Group welcomes you to an online event from 9:30 - 11 am, Wednesday 16 November during Charity Trustees Week which will raise awareness of Safeguarding roles and responsibilities of directors and trustees, as well as the resources that can support them. Our facilitators will cover the following topics:
- Importance of good governance and Safeguarding considerations for Trustees: Margaret Rooney, Trócaire, will provdide an overview of the role of the Board with regards to safeguarding; as well as systems for oversight and response to organisational safeguarding requirements.
- Safeguarding in Supply Chain: Mandy Yamanis, GOAL, will discuss why safeguarding matters in supply chain and how we can integrate safeguarding in our procedure manuals. We will talk about GOAL's supplier code of conduct and share the learning from launching this new process.
- “Let the right ones in…”: Sara Barnes, Concern, will highlight the safe hiring practices that are an integral part of safeguarding and the session will discuss some practical measures for Trustees to consider.
The session is open to Board members, trustees and senior management of non-governmental organisations. Attendance is free but registration is essential.
Charity Trustees' Week celebrates the important contribution that Trustees (the people responsible for leading and managing charities and include members of the board of management or governing committee and company directors of charities) make to the charity sector. Charity Trustees’ Week is hosted in partnership by the Charities Regulator, Boardmatch Ireland, Carmichael, Charities Institute Ireland, Dóchas, Pobal, The Wheel, and Volunteer Ireland.
