Standards of Excellence - Codes and Guidelines

For all Dóchas members, commitment to high professional standards, participation and transparency are integral to development processes and to the workings of development organisations. Dóchas members also understand that the donating public deserve transparency in the workings of humanitarian aid agencies to determine how their contributions are being deployed.

Because of this commitment and this understanding, in 2007 and 2008 Dóchas members developed self regulating Codes for overseas development and humanitarian organisations to adhere to in order to ensure that their work is effective, transparent, accountable, and has lasting impact on the communities with which they work. The Codes come from an awareness that adopting best practice helps the overseas development and humanitarian sector to keep pace with a fast changing environment and keeps the sector effective where it really counts - promoting the rights and increasing the opportunities and choices available to people living in poverty around the world. In 2012 and 2013 Dóchas also developed Guidelines for Financial Reporting and Partnership Guidelines for Dóchas members who work with southern civil society organisations.
