Latin American and Caribbean civil society organisations call for equality, rights and democratic participation for the peoples of Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean

On the 19 & 20th March this year,  Latin American and Caribbean civil society organisations  issued a “ Brussels Declaration”  calling for equality, rights and democratic partcipation in the Latin American and Caribbean region. The declaration was issued during the  EU-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Civil Society Forum, which took place in Brussels, Belgium. The Forum  was organized by CONCORD with its partner MESA de Articulación - the Latin American NGO association.

The Brussles Declaration was issued ahead of the 2nd Summit of Leaders and Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union (EU), which will also take place in in Brussels in June 2015 .

The declaration highlights growing inequality, concentration of wealth, and unequal access to power and resources in the EU-CELAC regions and calls for the June Summit to:

1.Build societies that favour socio-economic equality and environmental sustainability

2.Foster a relationship that promotes human rights and welfare

3.Promote democracy and citizen participation
